The 2017 Detroit Auto Show features the 2018 Ford F-150 Lightning model being one of the most innovative and well-designed pickup trucks in the recent past. Though still in the making, this truck will definitely make a grand debut upon release. And attract many buyers, especially in the United States market.

Some improvements have been made compared to its predecessor, majorly involving installation of new technology equipment. Much more attractive outside features, not forgetting a strong and efficient drivetrain under the hood.

The front part of the 2018 Ford F-150 Lightning comprises of a two-bar grille. That stretches across the width making it appear wider. The headlights have been reshaped to have their ends protruding further towards the truck centre. The grille structure further extends to the new bumper design while a filler separates the bumper from the grille and lights. The wheels are wide with a range from 17-22 inches for different trims.

The rear part also has new lighting elements incorporated, with a split between the upper and lower parts of the element. A more noticeable and restyled tailgate comes in two trims. Trapezoidal for the lower trim and a larger size for the upper trim. It has a large wheelbase of 133 inches, hence wide.


The interior of the Ford F-150 Lightning 2018 is characterised by a lot of silver lining on the dashboard, steering wheel, and gearbox. The two-door cabin is sporty but still contemporary and can accommodate up to five passengers comfortably. For a better experience, new upholstery has been installed alongside with up to date technology.

These include an HD screen display, Google maps and navigation aids, an up to date audio system, a satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB and Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity features. Safety features such as cruise control, parking sensors, lane switching notifiers, airbags, rearview camera and a navigation system will be made readily available.

The 2018 Ford F-150 Lightning’s drivetrain consists of a 3.5-liter V6 engine. That acts as a replacement for the previous V8 6.2-liter engine. It is capable of producing 411 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.

This engine has a fuel efficiency of 26 miles per gallon on the highway. It is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox, a combination producing a power stroke that can enable the truck to tow up to 12,000 pounds.

The available adaptive cruise control has been upgraded to a stop-and-go status, hence a driver can bring it to a complete stop and later pick up where it left off in heavy traffic rather than shutting down the cruise when the speed is lowered.
